Max Levytskyi (b. 1999) is a choral and orchestral conductor from Ukraine. He is
currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London, UK (conducting with
professors Alexander Walker and Dominic Grier, composition with Professor Morgan
Hayers). Max has a lot of experience working with orchestral and choral music as a
conductor and an extensive portfolio as a composition student. Having received choral
education he has also performed in choirs as a vocalist (Ukraine, UK, Italy, Poland and
Austria).

Max’s most recent highlight is working on the staging of Tosca by G. Puccini as
assistant conductor and choral director with the Rose Opera in London (March-May
2024). His other key activities include conducting the Hungarian National Symphony
Orchestra Szeged as a participant of the Ferenc Fricsay International Conducting
Competition (September 2023), directing a contemporary Ukrainian monoopera
“Tenderness” by V. Hubarenko at the Royal Academy of Music (Susie Sainsbury Theatre,
October 2023) and taking part in “And Other Duties” masterclasses with Timothy
Redmond and Karen Ní Bhroin in Manchester, UK (July 2023). There he also had a
chance to work with Grant Llewellyn on the Belshazzar’s Feast by W. Walton among
other pieces.

Max has co-founded the Lihtar Orchestra and Choir in April 2023, gathering
students from all conservatoires of London. He has worked on and performed a wide
range of classical and contemporary repertoire with this collective in different concert
venues, including St James Picadilly, the Holy Trinity Church Sloane Square and St
James Sussex Gardens.

Before coming to the UK, Max has also worked and performed with the Rivne
Philharmonic Orchestra in Rivne, Ukraine. Earlier he received musical education in
Ukraine, at the R. Glier Kyiv Municipal Academy of Music (choral conducting – prof.
Halyna Horbatenko). He has also gained experience in masterclasses with Mark Stringer
(MDW, Vienna), Ion Marin (Mozarteum, Salzburg) and Volodymyr Sirenko (National Music
Academy, Kyiv).
